Relax, Refresh and Recharge
|
Here are a few of the Beehive team’s favorite things to help us relax, refresh and recharge.
Spark the Mind
- Learn — Learning something new stimulates the brain. Discover a new skill or pick up a new hobby.
- Create — Creating with your own hands calms the mind and reduces anxiety, depression and stress. We love Nordeast Makers in Minneapolis.
- Read — Expanding our minds through books opens new ways of thinking. Our team is reading “So You Want to Talk about Race” by Ijeoma Oluo, as well as many of the best books of 2020 from New York Times and Time Magazine. USA Today also has an excellent new list of books on racism for adults and children. NPR’s favorite books of 2020 is hand-picked by NPR staff and trusted critics.
Nourish the Soul
- Breathe — It’s often said peace is only a breath away. Check out Headspace, Deepak Chopra or this list of the best guided meditations for 2020 to clear the mind and be present.
- Slow Down — Embrace the Dutch concept of niksen – the art of doing nothing. The goal is not to achieve something, and it’s the perfect antidote to stress, anxiety and burnout.
- Connect — Making safe social connections boosts mental health and overall happiness. Join an online book club, schedule calls with friends or give back to the community through volunteer resources like VolunteerMatch.
Care for the Body
- Move — Regular physical activity improves endurance, reduces fatigue and protects against disease. If you’re working out at home while gyms are closed, CNet has an excellent guide for establishing a home workout routine.
- Hydrate — Drinking enough water helps hydrate and regulate body temperature and gives your immune system a boost. Apps like WaterMinder can keep you motivated to meet daily hydration goals.
- Strengthen — Get a flu shot, take your vitamins, nourish your body with healthy food and get plenty of sleep. Doctors are increasingly emphasizing the need for nutrient-rich food to boost the immune system, along with taking Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc.
